Stranded inventory is the quietest way an Amazon business loses money. Nothing fails, no notification arrives, and a SKU simply stops appearing as a buyable offer while the units keep occupying space and accruing storage charges.

It survives for weeks because it looks like an inventory number: read on an inventory screen, handed to whoever owns inventory. Wrong desk. The units are almost always fine and the listing is broken, which puts the fix in the catalogue rather than the warehouse.

Both halves of that matter. Product means the units exist, were received and are sellable — not damaged or unfulfillable stock, which is a different queue. Active offer means a listing that exists, has a price, and can go into a cart. Stranded is where the first is true and the second is not.

The list sits in Seller Central under Inventory, on the Stranded Inventory page inside Manage FBA Inventory. Amazon describes a tool there that lets you “add or amend product listings” to “make active listings for items that may not have them”. Menu labels move; if the page is not where this says, search for it by name. What matters is that it gives you a reason and an action per SKU.

The reason column is the value of the page, and the column most people scroll past. Read it and forty rows collapse into four or five groups, each taking one kind of fix.

The ranking is ours, from accounts we operate, not a published statistic. It tells you which filter to apply first on a list you have never seen.

A listing was closed or deleted with units still in the building. Someone ends a discontinued SKU, or deletes what looks like a duplicate, and the FBA units are left behind. It is the largest group on most accounts, and the one people make worse: deleting the row removes neither the units nor the charges, only the record you would have relisted against.

A price change deactivated the offer. The price landed outside a rule you set in automated pricing, or outside the range at which Amazon will show the offer. The listing is intact and nothing looks broken from the catalogue side, which is why this group is found late.

A requirement arrived after the listing did. Categories and product types acquire documentation requirements over time, so a product that traded for a year can go dark because a document is now expected for it. This group is not a same-day fix.

The detail page changed underneath the offer. The ASIN is suppressed, merged or removed and your offer goes with it — the same failure the piece on listings that get suppressed without raising an alert covers from the catalogue side. When the ASIN also holds FBA units, it surfaces here as stranded stock.

A variation broke, or an edit broke the join. A parent-child rebuild drops children, a merchant SKU is renamed in a flat file, a fulfilment channel is switched by accident on a bulk upload. The offer and the FBA record stop referring to the same thing, and the units are orphaned.

The account is restricted for that brand or category. The rarest of the six, and the one where the answer is often that you cannot list this until you are approved. Say that early: it turns the next question from when we fix it into how long we pay to hold it.

Export the list, sort by the reason column, and count the groups before you fix anything. Forty rows is usually three jobs. The three groups below cover most of what you will see; catalogue-level and restricted rows are the remainder, handled as cases and approvals rather than edits.

Units fine, no listing. The work is mechanical, and the way to get it wrong is to create a new SKU instead of restoring the old one.

2. In Manage All Inventory, check whether that SKU is closed, inactive, or gone entirely. The price and settings groupNhóm giá và cấu hình

Listing exists, offer does not. Fixing the price alone is the trap: if a pricing rule pushed the offer out of range, the rule is a standing instruction and it will do it again.

This group does not clear today. Planning it as if it will is how a stranded list stays the same size for a month.

For every row that cannot be relisted quickly there is a second decision, and it is the one that gets deferred. Amazon's framing on dead stock is blunt: holding it “comes with costs for storage, labor, and insurance, which can tie up business capital”.

The storage charge is the visible cost and the smallest one. The first hidden cost is space: Amazon sets FBA capacity limits in volume, measuring usage “in cubic feet (vs. number of units), which better represents the capacity sellers' products use in our fulfillment centers”. A stranded pallet is cubic feet you hold and cannot sell through, and in the fourth quarter it is cubic feet you wanted for something else.

The second is the score behind the limit. Amazon says capacity limits “are influenced by sellers' IPI scores, as well as other factors such as sales forecasts”, and how quickly listing issues get fixed is one of the things that score reflects. A stranded row is a cost this month and an input into next month's ceiling — the loop is set out in the piece on what getting inventory wrong costs beyond the storage line.

The third is the money still going out against the ASIN: ads pointed at a page with no buyable offer, a promotion still scheduled, a restock order already placed. None of it stops itself when the offer goes dark, and none of it appears on the stranded page.

The early signal that this is a process problem rather than an incident is repetition: the same SKU twice in two months, or the count rising a day after a bulk edit. Either says the fix worked and the cause did not get fixed.

Stranded units are created by listing changes. Almost without exception something was edited, uploaded, repriced, merged or deleted, and the stranded row is the receipt. That places the check: immediately after any bulk listing action, not on a monthly sweep that finds the damage five weeks later.

In practice that is two checks. A post-edit check run by whoever ran the edit, on the page's next refresh. And a weekly read of the count against last week's number, which is the version that belongs on a standing agenda — it is the second of the six lanes in the weekly account review we run, immediately after account health.

Clearing a stranded listing does not refund the storage you already paid on it. It stops the meter and gives the units a route back to a customer, and that is the whole of what it does. It will not tell you whether the SKU deserved restocking — that is a margin question, and this is an operations page. What it should give you is the ability to look at a stranded count and know, within a few minutes, how much is a ten-minute fix and how much is a decision somebody has been avoiding.
